I had a blast at the Triple Turn Dance Experience 2026. I competed and won two trophies: First Place for Hip Hop, and High Score Award runner-up. I was stoked! I performed a routine that mixed my Latin roots with my love for hip hop, and I can’t wait to keep practising to make it even better.
Last year I competed in several categories, but this year I decided to focus only on hip hop. I had to balance the start of the school year with my choreo classes at Kinetic and home practice of my solo routines.
The 2026 Maleny event
There were about 170 performances in total, and they were all so good! The categories were:
- Classical Ballet
- Demi Character
- Lyrical
- Contemporary
- Jazz
- Broadway Jazz
- No Tricks Jazz
- No Tricks Lyrical
- Hip Hop (my favourite!)
- Tap
- Song and Dance
- Musical Theatre
- Student Choreography
The adjudicator was Kate Histon, who was super positive and encouraging to all the dancers. You can check out her podcast, Dance Real, where she talks about the behind the scenes in the dance industry. Thanks, Kate, for your awesome feedback and support!
A huge thank you to the organisers of the Triple Turn Dance Experience 2026 for putting together such a good event. They were very organised and really gave all dancer a chance to shine on the stage. Read more about their upcoming dance experiences.
The competition setting
Even though it was a super rainy afternoon, Maleny was still very nice. The competition was at the Maleny Community Centre, just a short walk from good food: I had the most amazing ham and tomato sandwich and Biscoff gelato at the Maleny Food Co. Cafe. My parents also bought some cheese from their cheese shop. After that, we crossed the road to Groovy Records and I snagged the Erykah Badu Worldwide Underground (limited shades of purple vinyl series). It’s awesome!
Thanks for reading my blog, come back for more dance adventures.
Catch you later!
